Whistleblowers play an instrumental role in insuring that public employees serve the public interest. The Center strongly defends employees who risked their careers when they appropriately report government misconduct. In addition to the Center’s well documented successes in insuring accountability at the FBI, the EPA, and the NRC, the Center has defended employees across the federal government. An example of this work is Ms. Bunnatine Greenhouse, and the prevention of her removal as the highest ranking government contracting official who exposed improper contract agreements between the Army and Halliburton in Iraq and the Balkans. Another example is that of Dr. Jonathan Fishbein, a high ranking NIH reseacher who disclosed conflicts of interest in NIH’s AIDS Prevention Program which resulted in widespread reforms.
