This afternoon, a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee will hear testimony on the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act.  Why should we care?  Last month, President Obama said he would seek to bar the release of photographs that depict abusive interrogations at secret overseas prisons during the Bush years--photos that are similar to, or worse, than the Abu Ghraib photos disclosed by whistleblower Joe Darby back in 2004. 

Washington, D.C. - Oct. 8, 2002. A FBI Agent has accused bureau investigators of stealing a Tiffany crystal globe from the World Trade Center ruins. Special Agent Jane Turner of the FBI's Minneapolis office said she turned the globe over to the Justice Department's inspector general's office after local FBI officials would not act on her complaint.

(Mother Jones) For an Army officer, criticizing the military commissions at Guantanamo as a perversion of justice probably isn't the best career move. That goes double if you also happen to be a former top military prosecutor at Gitmo. That's why Lt. Colonel Darrel Vandeveld, a US army reservist with nearly 20 years of service under his belt, fears the worst when a military promotion board renders its decision in his case this week.
