Ask Congress to Support Strong Whistleblower Protections |
Yesterday the Senate issued its markup of the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act of 2009 (S. 372). Please read our full analysis of the markup on the Whistleblowers Protection Blog.
The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs has
taken a step towards fixing the broken federal whistleblower protection
system. We ask you to urge the House and Senate Members to work together
to pass truly effective reforms for federal employees. The Senate did
the right thing in putting forward a provision, which permits federal
employees to remove their cases to federal court. However, the Senate
markup is only a partial victory, because the bill still lacks essential
protections that are found in the House version (H.R. 1507). These major deficiencies mean that
national security whistleblowers are left without effective protection,
and the powers of the inspectors general to protect whistleblowers are
actually reduced!
We must now redouble our efforts. Please ask
your Members of Congress today to ensure the final bill is
consistent with the protections in H.R. 1507, which guarantees full
access to juries for all federal employees and effective protections for
national security whistleblowers.
We have been waiting for this legislation for years, but we cannot afford more laws that are all fluff and no protection. With your help, we can make this change.
Congress needs to hear our voices now more than ever. Tell your friends and family to join in during this critical moment of history. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Stephen M. Kohn President
National Whistleblowers Center
P.S. Once again, please pass this alert on to a family, friends, and co-workers. Thank you!
