1man152-medThe Center offers the following internship programs:

  • LAW CLERK INTERNSHIP: Law students who intern at the Center receive one-on-one supervision from an attorney. Our law clerks are assigned significant legal research and writing projects, assist at trials and perform all the work of an associate attorney. This internship is open to law students currently enrolled in a full or part-time law school program.

  • LEGAL INTERNSHIP/PUBLIC POLICY: This internship provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to gain experience in the following areas of public interest law: policy research, Freedom of Information/Privacy Act research/requests, legal research, writing memorandum, pretrial preparation, community organizing, media relations, Internet activism, and grassroots networking.

The lead supervisor for the interns is Stephen M. Kohn. Mr. Kohn is a former clinical supervisor at the Antioch School of Law. He is an expert in the field of whistleblower protection and has authored three books on the subject: Whistleblower Law-A Guide to Legal Protections for Corporate Employees (Praeger, 2004); Concepts and Procedures in Whistleblower Law (Quorum, 2000), The Whistleblower Litigation Handbook, (John Wiley & Sons, 1991) and an updated Supplement, Fall 1994. The Labor Lawyers Guide to the Rights and Responsibilities of Employee Whistleblowers, (Quorum, 1988) and Protecting Environmental and Nuclear Whistleblowers: A Litigation Manual, (NIRS, 1985). Last Summer he published American Political Prisoners: Prosecutions Under the Espionage and Sedition Acts. (Praeger, 1994)

All internships are completely voluntary. However, the Center does participate in university sponsored grants. The potential intern can expect to receive all the necessary supportive letters to facilitate application for funds for their internship program. Interns who are keen and determined to be part of this program should be already applying for grants. The internship program operates throughout the calendar year.

To apply, mail, E-mail or fax a cover letter and resume to: Estelle S. Kohn, Intern Supervisor, P.O. Box 3768, Washington, DC 20027, Fax (202)342-1904, E-mail. Applications are accepted year round.
