Bipartisan National Whistleblower Day Recognition Resolution Unanimously Passes After Introduction by Senator Chuck Grassley

WASHINGTON, D.C. | July 29, 2021 — On July 27th, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate designating July 30, 2021, as “National Whistleblower Appreciation Day” that passed unanimously with bipartisan support. The National Whistleblower Center (NWC) applauds Senator Grassley’s leadership in recognizing this important day for whistleblowers as National Whistleblower Day enters its second day of programming.

Siri Nelson, NWC Executive Director, said, “This resolution is a gift to all whistleblowers joining us for National Whistleblower Day this year. Protecting whistleblowers is a bipartisan tradition in the United States, and the unanimous support this resolution received across the aisle is proof of this tradition. We are so thankful for whistleblower advocates in Congress like Senator Grassley and the amazing group of cosponsoring Senators behind this resolution – without them, none of this would ever be possible!”

The resolution was introduced by Senator Grassley and cosponsored by Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Gary Peters (D-MI), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Tom Carper (D-DE), John Boozman (R-AR), Ed Markey (D-MA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

Today, Senators Grassley, Wyden, Ernst, Duckworth, and Sinema will all speak at National Whistleblower Day to discuss their efforts to continually strengthen whistleblower protections and celebrate whistleblowers. Sens. Grassley and Wyden will speak at 12 PM EDT, and Sens. Ernst, Sinema, and Duckworth will all speak beginning at 12:30 PM EDT.

NWC’s National Whistleblower Day program began on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021 and runs until Friday, July 30th. Members of the media are encouraged to Register for National Whistleblower Day 2021 for updates and exclusive information.
