Washington, D.C. February 26, 2009.  In 1993, the NWC took on the daunting task of documenting forensic fraud and abuses in the world-renowned FBI crime lab. This effort was led by former FBI SSA Dr. Frederic Whitehurst.

As a direct result of information disclosed by Dr. Whitehurst, the U.S. Department of Justice issued an extensive report validating most of the his claims. This led the FBI to agree to unprecedented reforms in its crime lab.

Dr. Whitehurst’s efforts to bring reform to forensic science are still being felt to this day. The National Academy of Science recently released a report questioning many of the forensic science practices that he questioned back in the 1990’s.
