Senator Grassley Introduces Bill to Protect AI Whistleblowers

WASHINGTON, D.C. | May 15, 2025 — Today, Senator Grassley introduced the AI Whistleblower Protection Act, a critical, bipartisan piece of legislation which would safeguard employees in the AI sector who speakout against wrongdoing and abuse. The Act grants AI employees anti-retaliation protections and outlines clear reporting guidelines to the Department of Labor for disclosing AI security vulnerabilities and other AI violations. Under the act, AI whistleblowers are permitted access to jury trials to pursue their cases and are entitled to relief including reinstatement, double back-pay, compensatory damages, and other remedies.

As the AI sector races to develop groundbreaking technology, we continue to rely on AI employees to speak out against opaque business practices, abuse, and fraud in the burgeoning sector. Currently, AI Whistleblowers lack the adequate protections needed to safely speak out against wrongdoing and advocates have long spoken out about the need for AI Whistleblower protections. The protections outlined in the AI Whistleblower Protection Act would ensure that these employees can speak up safely, ensuring the integrity of the industry and the rights of everyday Americans.

Speaking to the act’s introduction, NWC Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors Stephen M. Kohn stated: “Rushing to place unsafe technology into the markets in order to beat competition and generate profits at the expense of national security is unacceptable. The risks posed by the improper use of artificial intelligence demand that Congress immediately act and pass this urgently needed law. It is beyond dispute that insiders like the brave whistleblowers who published the Right to Warn letter are the heart and soul of accountability.”

If we are to rely on AI employees to speak out against wrongdoing, we must ensure that they are protected from retaliation. NWC sent a letter to Senator Grassley to thank him for introducing this critically important bill. NWC urges its supporters to take action today to call for the passage of the AI Whistleblower Protection Act by contacting their Representatives and Senators.
