WASHINGTON, D.C. | July 28, 2021 — Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA) will deliver a keynote address at the 2021 National Whistleblower Day celebration hosted by the National Whistleblower Center (NWC) on Thursday, July 29th. Members of the U.S. House and Senate will begin their remarks at 12:30 PM EDT as part of Thursday’s programming, “WHISTLEBLOWING WORKS! Government Leaders Celebrate Whistleblowers.”
Rep. Speier, a true whistleblower defender and co-chair of the House Whistleblower Protection Caucus, has sponsored and co-sponsored numerous pieces of whistleblower protection legislation such as the COVID-19 Whistleblower Protection Act, introduced February 4th, 2021 to protect whistleblowers during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Whistleblower Protection Improvement Act, introduced May 4th, 2021 to enhance protections for federal government whistleblowers. In her address, Rep. Speier will discuss her recent efforts advocating on behalf of whistleblowers in Congress.
Over the years, Rep. Speier has sponsored multiple resolutions to express Congressional support for the designation of July 30th as “National Whistleblower Appreciation Day.”
In 2019 and 2015, Representative Speier spoke at NWC’s National Whistleblower Day celebrations about her work in Congress to protect whistleblowers.
