WASHINGTON, D.C. | July 9, 2021 — On July 6, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Fund Management Act into law. The signing of this law comes mere weeks after the bill passed the House with strong bipartisan support. The National Whistleblower Center (NWC) commends President Biden for taking swift action to save the CFTC Whistleblower Program from disaster and demonstrating a commitment to whistleblower programs.

In June, NWC called on President Biden to take action and sign this critical bill immediately. In December 2020, NWC launched a campaign to save the CFTC Whistleblower Program. Since, NWC has supported the rapid passage of the bill, and in April 2021, NWC led a group of whistleblower advocates in writing to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry to urge committee members to pass this bill. Read more about the bill and its passage at Whistleblower Network News.

NWC Executive Director Siri Nelson said, “We are so grateful that President Biden has recognized the importance of rewarding whistleblowers and the bipartisan support whistleblowers have in the halls of Congress. With this signing, CFTC whistleblowers will continue to be able to come forward with confidence that they will be rewarded for their efforts to stop commodities fraud.”

NWC thanks Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Susan Collins (R-MA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Joni Ernst (R-IA) for championing the CFTC Fund Management Act. Senators Grassley and Ernst will speak about whistleblower protections at the National Whistleblower Day 2021 celebration on July 30th. RSVP today to join and receive updates about this important event full of influential speakers and useful resources.
