On February 2, 2019, the Hellenic Anti-Corruption Organization will hold its first International Conference on Anticorruption Policies & Anti-Bribery Management Systems in Attica, Greece. Whistleblower attorney Stephen M. Kohn, Executive Director of the National Whistleblower Center (NWC), will deliver the keynote address and speak about whistleblower protections in the US and Europe.
Kohn is a founding partner in the top qui tam whistleblower firm Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP. His primary litigation focus includes representing international whistleblowers under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, tax fraud whistleblowers, qui tam reward laws, the False Claims Act, SEC whistleblowers and IRS whistleblowers. In 2012, the firm obtained the largest qui tam whistleblower reward given to a single individual in history ($104 million to UBS whistleblower Bradley Birkenfeld) and he represents the Danske Bank money laundering whistleblower Howard Wilkinson. In 1988, Kohn helped found the National Whistleblower Center, where is currently serves, pro bono, as Executive Director. His eighth book on whistleblower law is the highly respected The New Whistleblower’s Handbook (Lyons Press, 2017).
The conference is co-organized with the Anti-Bribery Academy International and under the auspices of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece, the TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS, the Global Infrastructure Anti-Corruption Center.
The conference will host four sessions following Kohn’s keynote address:
- Empowering transparency systems in local governments with speakers Dr. George Patoulis and Alexander Aliferis.
- The implication of corruption in the rule of law presented by Dr. Ioannis Kechris, Vladimir Hrle, Kamel Ayadi, Vassileia Katsani, Dr. Dimitris Souras.
- Compliance and models of transparency on private and public sector presenting by Ioannis Kousoulos, Emmanuel Alifierakis, Ciro Strazzeri, Marina Agapitou, Nick Spanos.
- The Voice of Youth will be presented by two female students of Athens University speaking about daily corruption challenges they face in Greece.
