NWC, Empower Oversight, GAP, & TAF Commend Senator Grassley’s Call for Answers from CFTC Nominees

WASHINGTON, D.C. | October 14, 2021 — National Whistleblower Center (NWC), alongside Empower Oversight, Government Accountability Project (GAP), and Taxpayers Against Fraud (TAF), sent a letter to Senator Chuck Grassley today, commending him and the Senate Judiciary Committee for presenting direct questions to the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) nominees about whistleblower protections.

In the letter, NWC, Empower Oversight, GAP, and TAF join Senator Grassley in calling for answers from the CFTC nominees. To adequately fulfill their nominated roles, Rostin Benham, Kristin Johnson, and Christy Goldsmith Romero must ensure that the whistleblower program will continue to be a major priority at the CFTC.

Siri Nelson, NWC Executive Director, said, “We commend Senator Grassley for his consistent efforts and leadership in Congress to champion whistleblower protections, and we commend the Judiciary Committee for standing for whistleblowers alongside him. Hopefully, the questions posed to the nominees will give them all a chance to affirm their support for whistleblowers; the CFTC’s whistleblower program needs their support!”

In early 2021, Senator Grassley successfully led efforts supported by NWC to introduce the CFTC Fund Management Act, which resolved funding issues at the CFTC. The Act passed and was signed into law in July 2021.
