WASHINGTON, D.C. | December 13, 2021 — On December 14, at 12 Noon EST, National Whistleblower Center (NWC) Executive Director Siri Nelson and Whistleblowing International Executive Director Mark Worth will be discussing the implementation of the European Union (EU) Whistleblower Directive in a virtual event titled How EU Countries Are Failing Whistleblowers. This video chat is free for all attendees and hosted on LinkedIn Live.

In October 2019, the European Parliament passed the Whistleblower Directive, which mandates all EU members must implement whistleblower protection and anti-retaliation laws by December 17 2021. As Worth has written, many EU countries will miss the deadline, and the laws being debated fall far short of expectations.

Nelson and Worth will be discussing the failure of member countries to meet the requirements and adequately protect whistleblowers, and what it means for the future of international whistleblowing. The past two years have been full of false promise and folly for the international whistleblowing community, but there is a path forward.
