WASHINGTON, D.C. | February 16, 2022 — Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), often referred to as “the patron saint” of whistleblowers, will deliver the keynote address at National Whistleblower Center’s March 2nd False Claims Act Celebration, commemorating the 159th anniversary of the landmark whistleblower legislation.

Originally passed in 1863, the False Claims Act (FCA), also known as the “Lincoln Law”, is the most powerful tool to combat fraud against the government. Senator Grassley is the architect of the crucial 1986 FCA amendments, which have since empowered the government to recover more than $70 billion dollars from fraudsters.

Though Fiscal Year 2021 was the second largest ever for FCA recoveries, awards to whistleblowers are in a freefall, due in part to confusion after a 2016 Supreme Court decision. To fix this situation, Senator Grassley has introduced a new set of amendments which aim to ensure the FCA continues to be the best tool to fight fraud against the government and protect taxpayer dollars.

Members of the media are encouraged to RSVP to the event for updates on programming and a link to join.
